Abstract
Cucumber is a nutritious vegetable with high economic and medicinal value, but its growth and yield are constrained by biotic and abiotic factors. This study assessed the effects of mulching and staking on cucumber growth, weed suppression, and yield under tropical conditions in the derived savanna zone of southeast, Nigeria. Treatments included black polyethylene mulch, dry grass mulch, and no mulch, combined with table staking, trellising, and no staking in a randomized complete block design. Results showed black polyethylene mulch consistently enhanced growth, yield, and weed suppression. Integrating polyethylene mulch with staking is recommended for sustainable cucumber production.
